Ebb + Rise

Ebb + Rise is a coastal retreat designed for the shores of Hawaii, where rising sea levels and tropical storms continue to reshape the edge between land and ocean. Elevated above potential flood zones, the project creates space for both retreat and gathering, offering moments of quiet as well as connection. I adapted the base model, inspired by work from BalkanArchitect, and shifted its structural integrity by introducing vertical support tailored to Hawaii’s environmental needs, as well as redesigned the materiality, developed the surrounding site, and introduced the adjacent structure. Designed with resilience in mind, Ebb + Rise embraces change rather than resists it, built to bend, never to break.
